It seems that Europe will get another airport with US border pre-clearance facilities.
According to aviation24, Brussels Airport will get US pre-clearance, so American border controls can already be completed before departure.
For time being, this in only possible at two European airports: Dublin and Shannon, which are both in Ireland.
US Pre-clearance Advantages
If you travel to the US, pre-clearance has a few advantages.
– Passengers go through immigration and customs before arrival. That means no more long waiting cues after you are already tired because of your long-haul flight.
– Upon arrival in the US, passengers of international flights are considered as domestic flights. This means that you can connect onto other flights and check your luggage trough to your final destination, without leaving security-
It is planned to station thirty officers of the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) at Brussels Airport.
However, it is yet unknown when the pre-clearance would be operational at Brussels airport.
Today, CBP has more than 600 officers and agriculture specialists stationed at 16 Pre-clearance locations in 6 countries thorough the world. CBP intends to expand the program wider to new locations in the future, allowing passengers to travel to the US more easily.
