Review: Mercure Hotel Saarbrücken City

Review of Mercure Hotel Saarbrücken City of a Privilege room in Summer 2018. It is the best room you can book in the Hotel. We received a welcome drink due to our Gold status.

Location

The hotel is located in the center of Saarbrücken, a 5 minutes walk away from the train station and the shopping district. The Mercure Hotel Saarbrücken city can be reached easly by car and a couple of complimentary parking spots in front of the hotel as well as an underground parking lot are available.

Rooms

Rooms have been renovated recently and our Suite style Privilege room was very spacious and had a modern look. The working desk is big enough and you have a lot of seating options available in the room. The TV can be turned around so you can watch either on the couch or in your bed. The view overlooking the Saar is nice and the bathroom is of a normal size but definitely big enough. You have a walk in shower.

Furthermore, the bed is large and comfortable. Slippers as well as bathrobes are provided. As a Gold member we received complimentary chocolate as well as some fruits and a welcome note.

Food & Drinks

The bar was not open when we were at the hotel due to renovation. You can have a drink in the hotel restaurant and a small vending machine is located in the lobby area where you can get everything you need. Breakfast is adequate for the price you pay but nothing special. The minibar is packed with the usual drinks and a Nespresso coffee machine with 4 caps was part of our room.

Staff

Staff at the reception was very friendly. During breakfast the staff definitely needs to be more attentive as dishes were empty all the time and not refilled quickly.

The cleaning staff definitely needs some training, on the picture below you can see that one of our towels became very dirty because we needed to clean up something, but it was not replaced the day after and simply folded back into position. This has been done a couple of times and is not dramatic as long as your towels are clean, but folding and presenting an obviously dirty towel like this is a no-go.

Other services

Wireless lan is provided free of charge as well as a small business area. Unfortunately no fitness centre is available in the hotel.

Conclusion

Staying in the Mercure Hotel Saarbrücken City we can definitely recommend this hotel despite our issues with the cleaning staff as the rooms are modern, renovated and the hotel has a perfect location in the heart of Saarbrücken.
